Juneteenth: Freedom, Fire, and the Flame That Keeps Burning

Juneteenth: Freedom, Fire, and the Flame That Keeps Burning

At Smell of Love Candles, we believe in lighting the path forward—boldly, loudly, and unapologetically. And on Juneteenth, we pause to honor the fire that was sparked generations ago, the freedom that was delayed but never denied, and the legacy of resilience that continues to blaze.

What Is Juneteenth?
Juneteenth marks the day—June 19, 1865—when Union troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, and finally enforced the Emancipation Proclamation, freeing the last enslaved Black Americans—more than two years after the proclamation was issued. It’s a day of truth, liberation, remembrance, and joy. It’s not just history—it’s ongoing, lived resistance and celebration.

For Us, It’s Personal.
We are a Black- and Afro-Latino-owned business led by a teen CEO who believes that business can be a form of protest, pride, and power. We build with purpose. We pour with heart. And we create with the full knowledge that our ancestors didn’t survive for us to play it small.

Juneteenth reminds us: We are our ancestors’ wildest scented dreams.
Every candle we craft is more than a product—it’s a statement. A celebration of culture. A reclaiming of joy. A refusal to be muted.

How We Celebrate
We celebrate Juneteenth by sharing stories. By giving back. By turning up the volume on what it means to build generational wealth and power. Whether it's lighting our Guapísimo candle (hello, generational glow-up) or creating spaces for rest, joy, and community, we’re here to honor Black brilliance every damn day—not just today.

What You Can Do
✨ Buy from Black-owned businesses
✨ Learn the real history—not the watered-down version
✨ Talk to your kids about freedom and justice
✨ Celebrate Black joy
✨ Keep the flame of equity burning long after June 19th

This isn’t just a holiday. It’s a reminder:
We are still rising. Still building. Still glowing.
And we’re not stopping anytime soon.

Light a candle. Honor the journey. Keep the fire going.
